What is Adultery?

Adultery is sex between someone who is married and someone who is not their wife or husband.

This act is different from fornication; sex between two unmarried people. While adultery is committed by two parties (a man and woman) which one must be married or both are married. Fornication is done between persons who are not married or one unmarried (the fornicator) and the other married (adulterer or adulteress).

Having said this, there is a need for you to know that it’s not only physical intercourse with a man or woman that is regarded as adultery.

Jesus in the Book of Matthew 5:27 say, “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘you must not commit adultery’. But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (NLT)

If Jesus says that when you lust after a married woman without even holding her hands that you have already committed adultery with her, then masturbation should be a sin, since you commit the act imagining a woman you are having sex within your heart.

Masturbation is defined as giving yourself or another person sexual pleasure by touching or rubbing the sexual organs. When performing this act, you have the picture of a naked woman in your mind, and it is almost like having a woman physically with you.

Don't forget that the process also leads to an orgasm and the aim or goal of any sexual activities, is to climax and reach orgasm.

Let me tell you the truth, you have had sex with whoever you imagined at that particular time you masturbated, as long as you pictured in your mind, someone, a male or female while carrying on the act, be it someone you know in person or a celebrity, an entertainer you see on your TV and you lust after.

I will prove this now; we all know that anything that can be imagined can be created. Most products we have today emerged through the makers’ thoughts. Even we humans emerged through the thoughts of our Creator- God!

So, if you look at another person’s wife or husband and you imagine what she/he would look like on bed, then you have seen her nakedness. All you need to do is paint the picture in your mind. as long as it is someone's wife, then it is adultery, if it is a single person, it is fornication, unless the person is you imagined is your legal wife or husband.

Many people are guilty of adultery, yet they don’t know this because they think they did not physically sleep with him or with her.

Therefore, the same punishment goes for the person who did it in his heart and the one who did the actual physical act.

The bible puts sexual sin as one of the most serious sins that God detests.

In Matthew 5: 29-30 , Jesus explained how to escape the punishment of adultery by avoiding adultery, he said, “If your eye- even your good eye- causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to have one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand-even your stronger hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to have one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell” (NLT)

Whatever it is that will make your body to be destroyed do away with it. The hell is now, it’s not when you are dead.

Adultery can cause sexual diseases; by guiding your eyes you won’t notice anything that will make you want to have sex with a woman who is not your wife.

By guiding your hands, you won’t steal and face possibility of jail or firing squad.

I pray that God will give you the perfect understanding you require to do His will, Amen.
