Doctor Extracts Bottle Cap From Man's Stomach With CONDOM
A doctor used a bizarre piece of equipment to extract a bottle cap from a
man's stomach after he had accidentally swallowed it while drinking
beer too fast.
The man, identified only by his surname as Liu, had been drinking with friends when he ingested the sharp bottle top.
The man attended A&E at around 10pm on Friday night at the Lianyungagn Hospital.
He told medical staff on duty that he had swallowed the bottle cap because he had been drinking too fast.
Liu was given an X-ray, before doctors advised him to return to the hospital in the morning when his stomach was empty.
On Saturday morning, Liu was seen by the chief of gastroenterology,
Dr Ju Weiping who decided to use a condom to wrap the bottle cap up
before moving it out of the man's stomach.
The doctor, 60, said that by wrapping the cap in the latex
contraceptive tool, it prevented it from scratching and damaging any
organs as it was being extracted.
Dr Weiping originally trained as an electrical engineer before attending medical school in 1978.
He believes his training as an engineer gave him the skills he needed to safely extract the cap from Liu's stomach.
