Gov Ganduje Approves N2.2 Million To NIPR For Certification of Its Members From Kano
Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the sum of N2.2 million for the re-certification of Kano state civil servants who are members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR.
Giving the approval when the chairman, Membership and Accreditation Committee of the Institute, Malam Sule Yau Sule led members from Kano on a courtesy call on Tuesday, the governor said the move is to ensure that the members are fully certified to practice.
He added that present administration is need of the service of professional image makers in order to project its policies and programmes positively. Governor Ganduje explained government requires image making more than any organization to enable it enjoy acceptability of the electorate, adding that public relations is the backbone of any democratic government.
He then expressed support of the NIPR’s plan to ensure that professional ethics are maintained in the profession, noting that unprofessional practitioners instead of projecting the image of an organization, they end of damaging it.
Earlier, Malam Sule Ya’u Sule lamented that the Institute is worried that out of its 120 members from Kano, only 20 were re-certified pointing out that such is not encouraging. He explained that all the 100 yet to be re-certified members are public relations practitioners in Ministries and local government councils.
He told the governor that unlike reporters, public relations practitioners project positive stories while reporters prefer negative ones, noting that the Ganduje administration has demonstrated public relations responsiveness considering the way it addresses issues cordially.
