Kano state government has signed Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with two firms for the review the state master plan, which has not been updated over the past 33 years.
Speaking shortly after signing the MoU at Kano Government House on Wednesday, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Gandaje said the first plan was initiated in the 60s and expected to be reviewed after 20 years.
Dr Ganduje lamented that even though the master plan was supposed to be reviewed in 1983, subsequent administrations were not able to do so, despite the apparent challenge of modernity.
The governor maintained that his administration accords priority to the project, considering the daily increase in the state’s population and his vision to make it one of the mega cities in the world.
He explained the state government signed the MoU with Kano Metropolitan Consultant to review the master plan of eight metropolitan local government areas, adding that Marx and Lock Consultants would review that of the five suburban areas of Gabasawa, Gaya, Wudil, Rano and Tudun Wada all from Southern Senatorial District of the state.
While thanking the consultants and the state ministry of Land and Physical Planning for commitment to ensure the success of the project, Dr. Ganduje said plans are in the offing for the review of master plan for Kano North Senatorial District.
Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje has bagged two awards from the state Police Community Relation Committee and Kannywood for addressing cattle rustling and for maintaining cordial relationship between film artistes and the state government respectively. The awards were presented to him during the state weekly executive council meeting.
