Mosques should be used as schools for learning- Emir Sanusi Muhammadu II



Emir of Kano, Sanusi Muhammadu II have advised that mosques be used as schools for learning to eliminate inadequate infrastructure in schools.  He said this will giving an appreciation speech to the governor of Kano State at the graduation of 2000 in service trained teachers in Kano State.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, was the in attendance at graduation ceremony of the 2000 in-service trained teachers in three programmes; Nigeria Certificate in Education NCE, Professional Diploma in Education, PDE and Bachelor in Education, B.Ed.

The graduation ceremony is part of the activities of Kano Basic Education Week which started on Monday, to showcase the achievements in the Education sector.

Available records shows that, Kano had the highest number of unqualified teachers in the country but with the intervention of Governor Ganduje's administration under two years this has changed. Apart from the 2000 grandaunts in the scheme, there are additional 25,000 currently undergoing similar training and will graduate in 2018.

Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said that, it was a historic day, as his administration is poised to greatly standardize the quality of teachers in the state and by the end of 2017 when the 25,000 unqualified teachers will finish their training, Kano will eradicate the issue of unqualified teachers in the state.

Gov. Ganduje further stated that there are other interventions by the state government like the summer camp for female students which has trained over 10,000 and all have passed their common entrance examinations making the programme a huge success. Other interventions include promotion of teachers which has not been done for over a decade as well as establishment of education promotion committees in the 44 local governments.

The Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II in his remarks said that the value of education is in the quality of its teachers and not the fine classrooms and Equipment in a school. He expressed his appreciation that the training of teachers did not stop at Kano indigence alone but all teachers from within and outside the state that are currently teaching in Kano.

The Emir advised that mosques be used as schools for learning to eliminate the issue of inadequate infrastructure. He also commended the administration of Governor Ganduje in embarking on this initiative.

In their goodwill messages, different representatives of various institutions in the education sector, like NNCE, NUC, NTI, UBEC and others commended the state government for this giant strive that will ensure quality education in the state and urge the government to continue with this laudable initiative for the promotion of quality of education.
