Buhari's “Anti-corruption war” Biased?

Category: Latest Nigeria News

In recent times, many Nigerians have had reasons to believe that the fight against corruption by it's president, is lopsided and  selective. Though everyone seem to agree that the president is fighting corruption, even the strong opposition parties believe so too, but it is a general view that the president is targeting only those perceived by the corruption agencies as enemies of his government, either presently or in the past.

According to a new report by SaharaReporters, the Chief of Staff to President Buhari, received as much as N500 million bribe from MTN to help the telecom company mitigate the fine imposed on it by the federal government.

It said that corruption allegation against  Abba Kyari , Buhari's Chief of Staff was presented to President Buhari several times including during the Sallah holiday. But the president did not relieve Kyari of his position.

In the report, when the Chief of Staff was confronted by the president about the allegation, he claimed he was helping the All Progressives Congress party raise funds for the gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, to which the president reportedly asked him if he was the party chairman, but did not relieve him of his post.

Other corrupt practices alleged to the Chief of Staff include include taking money from Jide Omokore, a businessman who was involved in corrupt practices in the oil sector during the Goodluck Jonathan's administration.

With all these corrupt practices alleged against top Buhari officials like, the Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Buratai, who was revealed purchased homes in Dubai with public funds, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdulrahman Dambazau, who has homes worth millions of dollars in Boston in the United States and several other aides and officials within the government said to be involved in illegal employments and forgery of age and certificates.

If we should go by the president's claim that, his “anti-corruption war” was being implemented on the basis of justice and fairness. From some of these evidences provided, do you think the president's campaign against corruption is sincere and without bias?
