Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, commends Governor
Alex Otti for providing valuable support to security agencies in the ongoing
battle against kidnapping and various criminal activities in certain areas of
the state.
The Commissioner of Police made this statement while heading a team of "Operation Crush" personnel and Abia State government officials to two schools seized by kidnappers in Lekwesi community, Umunneochi LGA.
In the course of the Umunneochi inspection, a tunnel believed to be utilized by kidnappers for transporting victims into the bush was uncovered. The Commissioner mentioned that the schools, which had been in a state of disrepair for an extended period, would be reconstructed to prevent criminals from using them as hideouts.

CP Onwuemelie emphasized that the expansive nature of the entire area, coupled with the presence of culverts in the bushy regions, could serve as hiding spots for victims. He highlighted the possibility of structures like culverts being used to conceal kidnapped individuals, underscoring the success in addressing the kidnapping challenge over the past seven months in Abia State.
Commander Macdonald Uba (Rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters and a member of the team, alleged that the roads surrounding the schools were not constructed by previous administrations. He pointed out that kidnappers exploited this situation, utilizing the areas as their hideouts.
He mentioned that the Abia State Government would undertake the construction of the road and revive the schools, while also urging the host villages to consistently provide prompt information to the state government and security personnel.
