Don’t Pray Like The Hypocrite

Category: City Pastor's Teachings

Matthew 6:7-13

When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth that is all the reward they will ever get! But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private.

Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

The first thing that is required of you when you want to pray is to find a quiet place, after you have ensured that you don’t have grudges against anyone. Secret place in the sense, that your prayer is an activity between you and your creator, God, Almighty.

Many Christians make the mistake of thinking that the much noise they make while praying is what gives them the answer to what they are looking for, no!

The bible says when you pray; you go into a private place and pray to your Father in heaven.

Really, if God sees everything, if God knows everything, if God hears everything and even knows what is in your heart, then truly, shouting while praying may not really be necessary. I am not talking about a church congregation prayer or a public prayer. I am talking about how you do your individual praying.

In fact, your prayer does not rely on how many times you repeat your prayer points. Since God is not like man that you need to beg to get something from, God hears you the very first time you make a request to Him.

“When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him! (Matthew 6:7-8)

God needs you to ask Him before He gives you, you know Go created us with choices to make. He wants us to ask Him so He can give us, as long as you follow the guidelines He has laid down in the bible, He will answer your prayers.

Jesus gave this pattern for people to pray a prayer that God will answer

Praise the name of God, worship Him, say all the good things about Him, what He has done for you, thank Him for whom He is (Matthew 6:9-10)

Ask Him for the provision of food, resources, favor, health, wealth etc. (Matthew 6: 11)

Ask for forgiveness of sin (Matthew 6: 12)

Pray against temptations (Matthew 6: 13)

Pray that you overcome the evil ones; their plots against your destiny (Matthew 6:13)
When you pray like this, in His infinite mercies, your prayers will be answered in Jesus name, amen.
