A congressman, a deputy mayor, the pilot and another passenger miraculously survived a helicopter crash in Brazil.

The aircraft was preparing to land at a football field in the southeastern state of Minas Geras yesterday when it accidentally made contact with a cable line.

A massive electrical spark was unleashed in the collision before the helicopter nosedived.

The fire department said that a fire then ignited and spread across the surrounding area.

Hercílio Diniz, the Minas Gerais federal deputy who is also running for reelection, was able to walk away from the wreckage.

He was seen covered in blood stains on his face and clothing.

David Barraso, the deputy mayor, Luciano Viana, the campaign press secretary, and pilot Fabiano Rufino were all injured.

One bystander at the scene filmed the three of them being carried away in a stretcher.

All four survivors were rushed to the local hospital for treatment.

Mr Barroso was in intensive care with fractures to his ribs, according to a statement from the deputy’s office.
