Stay Away From People That Discourage You From Your Ambition

Category: Motivational

Today's motivational: “Stay away from those people who try to disparage your ambitions. Small minds will always do that, but great minds will give you a feeling that you can become great too.” — Mark Twain

You MUST by all means stay away from people who discourage you from your ambition.

I have often hear people say, "how can you do it?", "it's not possible", "it's difficult", "where will you get help?" etc.

People are quick to discourage people who have what they perceive has great ambition, some times it not because they hate you, some times, its because the hate you, but most of the time, it's because they cannot see what you see.

Do you blame them for this? No, there is no need to blame them for not being able to see what you see. It's just like everyone going to bed to sleep at night, some have dreams in the night when they sleep, some others don't dream at all, some that dream don't have the same dream with the other person, so its the same way with ambition.

You may have the ambition to become the president of your country, just because someone else does not believe you can attain it, doesn't mean you cannot, just because they don't think it is possible, does not mean that is is not possible. You are the one with the ambition, just like the person who slept and dreamt and had a different dream from the other person, your ambition in life does not have to be the same as others.

What you should never allow, is them discouraging you and making you to lose focus to the extent that you throw that your ambition away.

While I was growing up, as little as in primary school, I discovered I had talent to writing, but even though I had parents who were educated, none of them see me becoming a writer, just because they couldn't imagine someone in their family becoming someone like Wole Soyinka, of James Hardley Chase, I believed it was impossible to achieve such a goal.

Even when I presented my ambition before an uncle who was professor, he didn't as much as took my talk as serious, what he told me that day was something I would never forget in life, even though the same person had written a number of books, but he didn't just believe that it was possible for me to become a writer, whatever his reasons were I don't know.

But someone how I didn't let all what they say or did dissuade me from my God-given talent, I kept on writing and making every moves to get published without help from anyone.

I was a science student in my secondary school, I remember when I wanted to apply for admission, I pleaded with my dad to allow me study English or something related to my talent, he vehemently refused and forced me to study a course which till date, I am still regretting.

But none of these setbacks deterred me from continuing to pursue my dream and today, I may not have reached there, but I am already seeing my bright future.

I may not have been able to stay away from these few people I mentioned in my story because my relationship with them, but I assure you if they were just friends, or some distant people, I would have ran away from them very far, because they didn't see what I was seeing.

The message in this article s emphasized by Mark Twain is that you should never allow anyone, I mean ANYONE to discourage you from your ambition, it may sound ambiguous to them, but they are not the one with the ambition, they are not in your mind, they are not in your brain, they are not in your soul, and they can never see what you see, so keep doing what you are doing, and success is surely certain.
