Nollywood actor, Goriola Hassan, on Tuesday, failed to appear before the Ogun State House of Assembly despite threats to order his arrest for parading himself as the Oba of Imobi, Ijebu East Local Government Area of the State.

However, Hassan was said to have contacted the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, over his invitation.

Daily Post reported earlier that the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs had asked the actor to appear before it on August 17 or risk being arrested.

But at the resumed sitting on Tuesday, Hassan was nowhere to be found.

As a result, the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Bolanle Ajayi, summoned Hassan for the second time over his purported claim to Obaship stool at Imobi-Ijebu, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the State, which he said had been a subject of controversy.

A group under the aegis of Imobi Descendants’ Union had earlier filed a petition against Hassan at the Assembly.

The sitting had in attendance, traditional rulers like the Onitasin of Itasin, Oba Adenola Adegbesan, the concerned Baales and other community leaders from the area at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Ajayi, in company of other lawmakers warned that “Hassan should stop parading himself as the Olu of Imobi, in line with the directive of the State government conveyed to him through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.”

Ajayi rechoed that he should come before the Committee on September 2, 2021 by 11am prompt.

She emphasised that “failure of the said Goriola Hassan to honour the Assembly’s invitation, having failed to show up after two earlier invitations, would lead to issuing his warrant of arrest.”

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, said that Hassan, who approached him last week on the matter, had been told in clear terms that he should honour the invitation of the Committee as the Assembly was empowered to investigate his purported claim to Obaship stool at Imobi, upon which the stakeholders in the Community had petitioned the Assembly.
