Just In: Senator Melaye Collapses as He Surrenders Himself To Police After Seven Days (Videos)

Police had since last week Friday laid siege on the Abuja residence of the embattled senator, Dino Melaye, in order to arrest and interrogate him over alleged homicide. Police officers have been there for more than five days with no sign of the senator in his house. Melaye on his part, maintained that he would continue to remain in his hideout, noting that the forces plan was to arrest and inject him with substance that would kill him.

However, owing to his refusal to surrender, Police disconnected his electricity and water supply and refuse to vacate his premises, noting that Melaye is wanted by the Police for a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Attempted Culpable Homicide, committed on 19th July, 2018, when Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs attacked Police personnel; shot and wounded Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.

Today, however Mr Melaye was visited by some colleague lawmakers around 3p.m. Friday afternoon, alongside his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome.

Lawmakers who visited him included Boma Goodhead, and a Senator from Kogi, Atai Aidoko-Ali.

It is not clear whether the lawmakers convinced Mr Melaye to surrender, but Mr Gbadebo told PREMIUM TIMES the legislators accompanied the senator to the police headquarters where they were told the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, was not around.

They were informed that the senator was wanted by SARS and should report to their commander’s office.

Mr Melaye and some of the lawmakers who accompanied him are currently at the Abuja SARS office.

It was also reported that while coming out of his residence, the senator representing Kogi West slumped down and was later helped to his feet.
