A joint Kano - Lagos Business and Investment Cooperation platform would soon be set up with the aim of identifying areas that will boost the economy of the two states.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje announced this during a visit to his Lagos state counterpart, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, in his office on Tuesday.

In this regard a Business and Investment Summit will be organized between the businessmen and other stakeholders from the two states in Kano with a view to turning the huge population of the two states into an asset and big market towards booting their economies.

The governor explained that technical committees would be set up and an investment summit would hold in Kano, to identify areas of investment and how the two states can take advantage of their large populations to propel economic boom.

Gov. Ganduje noted that both Kano and Lagos cities are mega cities with similar challenges and opportunities. He said presently they are contending with decayed and overstretched infrastructure, population growth and transportation needs adding that they are also strategic commercial centres in the Southern and Northern parts of the country respectively and important trading hubs West and Central Africa countries in general.

“We are sister mega cities with similar challenges in terms of security, environmental sanitation, transport system, unemployment and opportunities for internally generated revenue”, the governor asserted.

He also urged the Lagos state governor to reconsider his decision to relocate the Mile 12 Market in view of its repercussion on the Hausa community in the state and the economy of the state at large.

In his remarks, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode described the proposed Kano-Lagos business Summit as a step in the right direction. He also promised to look into the issue of the market in view of its economic importance.
