President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the the 2016 appropriation Act into law. The budget was signed into law by the President in the presence of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, in his office at the presidential villa Abuja.

Others who witnessed the budget signing ceremony were the national chairman of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, John Odigie-Oyegun and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

The 2016 budget estimates suffered several delays after claims and counter claims from both the legislature and executive arms, each accusing the other of padding the budget.

Buhari returned the budget to the National Assembly, after the Lawmakers removed key projects and added others not submitted into the budget.

Last week the leadership of the National Assembly met with the president and all “grey areas” were looked into and harmonized.

A clean copy of the budget was subsequently returned to the president which was finally signed today.

Last week after the meeting with the president, Senate President, Bukola Saraki promised Nigerians that the budget would be signed by Tuesday this week.

Details of the final copy of the budget is unknown at this time.

Mr Femi Adeshina, Special Adviser on Media to the President of Nigerian posted on his twitter that the President would address the state of the nation on May 29th, nations democracy day.
