How Policemen Forcefully Take Money from Men and Sleep with Women inside Police Station (Pictures)

When Peter (Not real name) approached me to publish this story on my blog, I wasn’t sure if it was a story I wanted on my blog, until I started hearing the kind of names policemen at the station bears, like Fagbo, meaning (Smoke weed), Selense (It’s a code used by cultists), other names like Skipo were also used as nicknames by these policemen.

I’m not sure if these names are code names or nicknames, but whatever they connote, these names are not names policemen should be associated with, because of their meanings and what they decode. A policemen bearing “Fagbo” cannot have any meaningful output because “Fagbo” means “smoke weed” and we all know what that means!

The other strange thing that caught my attention is the name of the police station, “Chinese Rob”, I thought it was some joke until I made some enquiries and found out that many people have had encounters with policemen from that police station at Pen Cinema area of Agege, Lagos. Everyone I spoke with said, their encounter with the policemen from that police station was not pleasant.

According to Peter on Saturday March 12th while escorting his female visitor to the bus-stop at about 10pm, he and his visitor were arrested along Akilo road, close to Ascon Filling Station in Ogba-Ikeja of Lagos.

Peter was waiting for a commercial motor cycle, along with his female friend when from nowhere, policemen wearing “Anti-robbery” vests suddenly alight from a moving Faragon bus (Lagos Commercial Bus).

Some Victims Arrested
Without asking any question, the policemen, four of them swooped on him and his female friend and told them they were under arrest. One of the policemen slapped him across his face, and another hit him with the butt of a gun when he demanded to know why they were being arrested.

Unable to protest further, both Peter and his female friend were whisked away inside the commercial “Faragon” bus. They were taken around the town in the commercial bus, first from Akilo to Aguda. While passing a police checkpoint, somewhere in Ogba, policemen at the checkpoint waved the bus down, but the Faragon drove dangerously past not obeying the order by the police at the checkpoint. That alone was frightening especially not knowing where they were being taken, with the high case of kidnapping these days.

From Aguda, they were taken to Nationwide Filling Station where the policemen raided more people while Peter and his friend were locked up in the bus. With the additional people arrested, they later went to Oke-Ira before taking them down to the dreaded Chinese Rob (Pen Cinema) Police Station, in Agege area of Lagos some minutes after 12pm.

The victim narrates his ordeal…

“In their first trip that night, they arrested 15 of us. None of us was told why we were arrested. When we inquired from the lady police at the counter, she said they were only doing their job that they raid like that every night from 10pm- 12pm.

“If at all we were arrested, why not tell us our offense?

We were told to sit on the floor, while they went out for another raid. This time, they came back with 2 girls, who from their appearance looked like prostitutes; one of them was almost naked, wearing only a pant and bra. She was also locked in the room with us.

When we asked why she was not putting on any cloth. She explained that she was a prostitute and was hanging out with a guy in a hotel; it was while she went outside the hotel to buy some cigarettes from a store outside that she was arrested. She pleaded that they allow her dress up but they refused and brought her into the station like that almost naked.

Fagbo, later came and took the two girls away, we didn’t see them again. What happened is better imaged!

They again went out for a third and fourth raid. In their third raid, a man was arrested and his friends came shortly after for his bail and release, but they were also arrested and detained. One man tried to identify himself as a security guard, but they shoved his ID card away. 27 of us were arrested that night, and none of us was questioned nor asked for any means of identity. And when demand to know why we were being arrested and detained, they cock their guns and threaten to shoot us.

From my interaction with some of the people in the cell, the “Chinese Rob” is known for its notorious officers and bad attitude towards the civilian population. They are known for extorting money from people indiscriminately by arresting them for no reason and demand huge amount of money to be paid as bail.

In fact the policemen that night, particularly “Fagbo” told us that when next we see policemen we should run, that not every person arrested by police and detained is a criminal. And when we asked if police wasn’t supposed to “be our friends”, they told us that we hadn’t seen nothing.
Shoes of Victims Arrested

The next morning we were allowed to make calls to friends and family for our bail. I was initially charged N10,000, along with my friend, I was able to raise N5,500 after calling my pastor and some friends.

They refused to accept my N5,000 offer until after a lot of pleadings, they accepted to take N5,500 as bail from me before I was released.

This is the height of impunity, is this in any way different from kidnapping and taking ransom? These are men who should be protecting citizens; they go around and brutalize them.

One drunken man who was arrested was beaten by the policemen until he fainted and slept off that night.

Is the DPO of “Chinese Rob” aware of the activities of his men, particularly the anti-robbery squad? What is government doing generally to stop the menace of policemen? That night alone 27 of us were arrested, that means they got nothing less than N135,000 that night alone, because they take an average of N5,000 from each victim.

From what I gathered from the lady police at the counter, they raid every night from 10pm to 2pm, and no one arrested pay anything less than N5,000 to be set free.

What is government doing to save the citizens from policemen robbing them with power bestowed on them to secure them? Are there no secret policemen that investigate the activities of other policemen, like you have auditors and inspectors in every other organization?

I later got to know the real names of those policemen but couldn’t get their ranks. Dele (Fagbo), Asiwaju (Selense), Yemi (Skipo).

I couldn’t take their shots because of the fear for my life. But these are some shoots from within the police station.
