PDP Breaks Ties With Obasanjo and 30 Others

The National Executive Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has severed ties with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and 30 other former members of the party.
Obasanjo’s name topped the list of those deleted from the party’s Board of Trustees members, The Punch reports. The removal of the 31 names, mostly founding fathers was approved during the party’s NEC meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, March 7.
Among those removed from the PDP BoT were three former national chairmen of the party –Barnabas Gemade, Kawu Baraje and Bamanga Tukur Others were five former speakers of the House of Representatives – Salihu Buhari, Ghali Na’Abba, Aminu Masari, Patricia Ette and Aminu Tambuwal.
Former Osun state governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Senate president, Ken Nnamani; former Gombe state governor Danjuma Goje; former Akwa Ibom state governor, Victor Attah; and Jim Nwobodo were also deleted from the list.
Shortly before the 2015 general elections, Obasanjo had shocked the former ruling party, resigning his membership in a dramatic fashion. The former president directed a fellow PDP member and ward leader to openly tear his party membership card to shreds at a forum in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
This was after he sent a letter to the national leadership of the party complaining about the role given to Senator Buruji Kashamu in the South West chapter of the party.
Tambuwal dumped the party few months to the 2015 general elections and contested for governorship in Sokoto state on the platform of the APC. Others like Jim Nwobodo and Nnamani dumped the PDP after it lost the 2015 elections to the APC.
