Abuja Businessman Docked Over Alleged N280,000 Hotel Bill

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 37-year-old businessman, Muhammed Kawu, in a Senior Magistrates’ Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, for criminal force and assault.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Gideon Ekomson, told the court that one Abraham Bassey of Sigma apartment, Wuse 2 reported the matter at the Maitama Police Station on Aug. 28.

Ekomson said that Kawu, a resident of Katame, Abuja, lodged in the hotel, accumulated a bill of N280,000 and refused to pay.


He said that the accused assaulted and tore the complainant’s suit after he confronted him to pay the bill.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 265 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Aliyu Shaffa granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.
Shaffa ordered that the surety must live within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case till Nov. 26, for definite hearing.
