Tension In Benue As PDP Chieftains Decamp To APC

Category: Nigerian National News

There is serious tension and some level of confusion in Benue State over moves by political heavyweights in the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Since the victorious outcome of the presidential election in which the president-elect, General Muhammadu Bugari defeated president Goodluck Jonathan in a PDP controlled state like Benue, the political equation has changed dramatically.

Following that, staunch members of the PDP have started to defect, even as many others are trooping to the residences of Senate minority leader, George Akume and the governorship candidate of the APC, Samuel Ortom, in Makurdi, to negotiate their swift defection to the opposition APC.

The former youth director for the Suswam campaign organisation, Chief John Akperashi Gum has already fixed a date, 7th April, 2015 for his decamping ceremony, hile a former minister of justice, Mike Aondoakaa (SAN) and Suswam’s deputy, Chief Steven Lawani and a member of the house of representatives-elect for the Ukum, Katsina-Ala and Logo, Emmanuel Udende have concluded plans to shift party, but are yet to officially announce dates for their defection.

Yesterday, the former youths’ director, Akperashi withdrew all his campaign vehicles from the PDP campaign organisation, rebranded them with the campaign pictures of General Buhari and Chief Ortom. He formally donated them to the Ortom/Abounu campaign organisation in a well-staged ceremony.
