UniAbuja New Vice Chancellor: “I Will Not Tolerate Politics in School”

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja, Prof. Micheal Adikwu, yesterday said he was at the varsity as a messenger of peace.

The VC who said the administration of a university is a pilgrimage process promised to ensure that the school has the best academic standard in Nigeria.

Adikwu stated this yesterday in Abuja, during the handover ceremony from the outgoing Vice -Chancellor Prof. James Adelabu.

According to him, “The running of a university is a pilgrimage, it is a continuous process. I will ensure there is best academic standard in the school.

“We should not allow our school to be politicalised and education should be used to solve socio-economic problems and rather than use it to create more problems. I am going to work out modality to ensure stability in University of Abuja community.

“As I was informed, the school is currently on forced vacation, so the first approach is to see how we can bring back both the lecturers and students of the school, so that normal academic activities resume soonest.

“It is imperative to reconcile everybody in this university because without reconciliation we can not move forward”, he said.

On uncompleted projects in the university, he said every new university has new projects and he would ensure such projects are completed as soon as possible.


Professor Michael Umale Adikwu was a lecturer in University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) before he was selected by the Governing Board of University of Abuja to be the new Vice Chancellor.

Prof Adikwu replaces prof James Adelabu, whose tenure expired on Monday.

Adikwu, a Professor of pharmacy from Benue state was elected the new VC despite coming third from position from the last three contestants.
