LAGOS- Some soldiers took over Ikorodu Road at Palmgroove axis of Lagos, causing serious traffic, after one of their colleagues was killed by a BRT bus.

According to eye-witness accounts, trouble started when a BRT bus hit and killed a soldier who was riding to work on a power bike. It is not certain if the soldier was riding on the BRT lane.

The driver allegedly ran away before the arrival of some soldiers who took over the entire area, stopping all BRT buses on the expressway and beating up the drivers, while passengers were chased out.

Aside impounding every BRT bus at sight, some fierce-looking officers also cordoned off some portion of Palmgrove express road where the accident occurred, causing serious traffic block for motorists.

Some passersby who tried to take shots of the incident were beaten while their phones were seized, an eye-witness said.

According to another eye-witness who sent in some of the photos in this report, two passersby were beaten up while another caught taking pictures was beaten and his phone smashed on the expressway.
The soldiers according to the source, damaged some of  the BRT buses seized, using heavy sticks and stones to break the glasses. One of them allegedly threw stones at the crowd which had build up.
They said would not leave the scene of incidence until the BRT driver was provided. Some of the buses were later set on fire. According to reports, four BRT buses were burnt.

BRT lanes are set aside lanes on major expressways in Lagos, only the Government owned Buses are allowed to use this part of the expressways.

Calm has since returned to the area, however BRT buses are not yet operating for the fear of attack by the soldiers.
