Jealous Rage: Husband found guilty of murder, he killed his wife over “suspected affairs”

A husband who killed his wife in a jealous rage because he thought she was having affairs with other men has been found guilty of her murder.

Richard Nyawanda Otunga stabbed Shamim Gabriel, the mother of their eight-year-old daughter, more than 30 times at their home in north west London.

After the brutal attack on December 29, the 37-year-old called his father-in-law to tell him they had had argument.

He was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with murder.

Otunga claimed his wife, who he had been married to since 2003, was stabbed in the course of a struggle after she tried to attack him with a knife, Scotland Yard said.

But following a trial at the Old Bailey, he was found guilty of the 33-year-old’s murder.

Speaking after the conviction, Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones, who led the investigation, described Otunga as a “controlling man” who was gripped by the belief his wife had been unfaithful.
