OAU Law Student Commits Suicide (See Suicide Note)

Last week we published a reports of a final year law student of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Oladipupo Ige who committed suicide.

There had been different stories about what led to the death of the student, some reports said he committed suicide because he was suffering from depression while another reporter said he committed suicide because he was dumped by a rich girlfriend.

Another report reveals that on the fateful day, Oladipupo Ige sent his mother a text message which reads;

"By the time you read this, I would have been dead."

According to report, the mother did not get the text in time because her phone was switched off. She later saw the text at about 10pm and called Bola Okiji, the late Oladipupo’s close friend and classmate but he was not around at the time. She then sent a woman living around the school to check on him. On getting there, the door was found locked from behind. When the woman peeped through the door, she reportedly saw the late Ige’s body dangling. She was said to have alerted other occupants who broke into the
deceased’s room.

One of his neighbours who pleaded anonymity said, "Lately, Oladipupo had been doing weird things; at times, he would wake up in the midnight and start washing the toilet. Sometimes, he would be banging his door at midnight."

However, the police are not in agreement with the suicide theory as the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Folashade Odoro, said the student died of “stomach ache”.

According to the police, the deceased called a friend, identified as Olajuwon, moments before his death, complaining of stomach ache but he died before Olajuwon reached him.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Bamitale Omole, has condoled with the bereaved family, saying the institution shared in its grief.

Late Oladipupo’s remains was taken by his parents to their Iree, Osun State hometown, last Sunday.
