Gunmen Rob Bank Inside Military Formations in Kaduna metropolis

Unknown gunmen have invaded a commercial bank located inside the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and Ribadu Military Cantonment in Kaduna metropolis.

Though how the gunmen gained entry into the bank inside the military formations despite the tight security around the formations could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, sources said the gunmen carted away large sums of money close to N52million and a Close-Circuit Television (CCTV).

The affected bank serves both NDA staffers and personnel of Ribadu Military Cantonment, Kawo in Kaduna metropolis.

Many wondered how gunmen entered the military formations and carried out the attack on the bank without being caught.

“The bank has since been closed down. We heard that nine staff of the bank were arrested and taken to One Mechanised Army Division but were later handed over to the police Special Anti-Robbery (SARS) for further investigations. We are still wondering how gunmen entered NDA and Ribadu Cantonment without being arrested. With this, many of us living in this formation are not safe; anything can happen to us anytime, any day,” a resident lamented.

When contacted on telephone, the assistant director, Army Public Relations, 1 Mechanised Division, Kaduna, Col Sani K Usman, confirmed the incident but said he could not comment further as the matter was now before the police for further investigation.

“I can confirm to you but you know our barracks are safe. There is no insecurity in our barracks.

What I can tell you is there is conspiracy among the staff of the bank because no gunshot was heard. The matter is under police investigation. I can’t comment further,” said the Army spokesman.
