Stop Saying; 'What is The Use in Serving God'

Category: City Pastor's Teachings

Many people including myself are guilty of uttering the above phrase many times. Sometimes it is said by mistake, a lot of other times we deliberately say it, particularly when we find ourselves in some difficult situations. We are often too quick to ask, “What is the purpose of serving God?”, “Why should I be serving God and pass through all these difficulties?”, “Why me O Lord with all my service to you?”

We ask many questions like these.

Malachi 3: 13-15 makes reference to this, it says; “You have said terrible things about me,” says the Lord. “But you say, ‘what do you mean? What have we said against you? You have said, ‘What’s the use of serving God? What have we gained by obeying his commands or by trying to show the Lord of Heaven’s Armies that we are sorry for our sins? From now on we will call the arrogant blessed. For those who do evil get rich, and those who dare God to punish them suffer no harm”

It is wrong to think this way, let’s always do our best to serve God and observe His commandments as we are informed by the bible. Let’s not because of challenges insult God and test Him negatively.

Don’t envy those who despise God’s ways and live their lives as it pleases them and say because nothing bad happens to them or they keep getting richer and you because of them mock God. There is reward for all the things we do both here on earth and in the world after.

Hear this, “Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other and the Lord listened to what they said. In His presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared Him and always thought about the honor of His name” Malachi 3: 16-18 (NLT)

God remembers those people who serves Him, He has their names written, He says, “They will be my people,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child. Then you will see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not” Malachi 3:17 (NLT)

Lord Almighty we come to You this afternoon, with our filthy hearts and souls knowing that we have sinned against you severally and you forgive us. Yet we say all sort of things against You in our desperation and anger, have mercy on us o Lord, forgive us our sins, in Jesus name, amen.
