Photos: Senators Shehu Sani, Hunkuyi Attacked During Press Briefing in Kaduna

Two Nigerian senators, Shehu Sani and Senator Othman Suleiman Hunkiyi, were today attacked by suspected thugs during a press briefing in Kaduna, witnesses told Premium Times.

Mr. Sani, the senator representing Kaduna Central also confirmed the incident to Premium Times saying the attackers were sponsored by Kaduna State Government, though the news outlet said it is unable to confirm this.

Mr. Sani said he and Mr. Hunkuyi, Kaduna North, had organized the press conference over alleged “manipulation of the party (APC in the state)” by Governor Nasir El-Rufai with whom the senator have been having political battle in the state.

The lawmaker said journalists were also attacked and that one of them was in a hospital.

Some witnesses said, heavily armed Political thugs believed to be sponsored, stormed the Headquarters of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council with dangerous weapons and disrupted an ongoing press conference being addressed by aggrieved members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
It was said that the party members had come to register their grievances over the alleged selection of delegates which according to them defiled the laid down constitutional provisions for such exercise, but alas that wouldn't be, as the press conference they called was disrupted and journalists who were carrying out their duties mobbed, stabbed and injured.

Senator Shehu Sani who has also spoken about this took to Facebook to say the attack was an attempt to kill them in order to silence them.
