52% of Registered Voters in Kogi West Sign to Recall Dino Melaye

Move to recall Senator Dino Melaye by some members of the Kogi West electorate seems to be yielding great results as there are indications on Monday that 52.3% of voters in the Senatorial district have signed the recall register.

If that milestone is verified by INEC, it means that opponents of the senator have satisfied the first step required by law to evict Melaye from the upper house of the Parliament.

According to Adamu Yusuf, the returning officer for the recall, 188, 588 electorates from the senatorial zone have signed the recall register form out of a total of 360,098 registered voters from the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district: Yagba, Mopa-Muro, Kabba Bunu, Yagba East, Koton Karfe, Lokoja and Ijumu.

In Yagba East – 18,374 out of 35,331 registered voters signed the recall register. In Mopa-Moro, 9,186 out of 18,356 voters signed; in Kabba/Bunu 28,277 out of 60,522 signed and in Yagba West, 20,029 out of 35, 966 registered voters signed.

In Lokoja LG, 63, 736 out of 116, 296 registered voters signed, in Koton-Karfe 24,703 and Ijumu 46,819 registered voters signed.

“Going by the above figures, it is important to let Nigerians know that we have met the constitutional requirements of 51.1 per cent. Senator Melaye has failed to represent Kogi West so we are calling him back home,” Yusuf said.

All the seven council administrators from Kogi West were present at the event which held at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat, Lokoja.
