Married Woman Tells Court to Dissolve her 15 Year Marriage Because Her Husband Brings Women Home

A teacher, Adeniyi Oluwatosin, has pleaded with an Orile Agege Customary Court, Lagos, to dissolve her 15-year-old marriage to her husband and commercial bus driver, Waheed, on allegation of adultery, alcoholism and domestic violence. The 34-year-old woman told the court that Waheed brought his lover into their matrimonial home.

She said, “He brings women home whenever I am not at home. I came home one particular day during break time and saw my husband with another woman at home. I was in a hurry, so I went back to school where I teach.”

“Later that night, I asked him who she was and he said she was his friend’s wife but I know his friend’s wife. He was lying but I let the matter go.” According to her, whenever Waheed was drunk, he vomited all over the house.

She alleged that she once locked him out when he came home drunk.

Oluwatosin claimed that her husband beat her up because she came back late from a party.

“There was also a time he locked me and my children outside because we came back late from church.

“Now, I pay the children’s school fees alone without his input.”

Oluwatosin said she no longer loved her husband and they should be separated since he no longer contributes to the care of their children.

Waheed denied all the allegations his wife made against him.

The 46-year-old transporter said he had indeed carried out all responsibilities as a husband.

“My wife talks too much. She once slapped me because I slept off while she was talking,” he said.

Waheed agreed to the fact that he is a heavy drinker.

“The day she alleged I beat her, I was sick on that day. I told her to prepare stew for me but she left me and went to a party with a woman that lived opposite our house after I had warned her not to befriend the woman.

When she came back from the party, I ordered her not to enter the house. I did not touch her that day,” he said.
He also claimed that he had never committed adultery.

Dr S.O Whenu adjourned the case till May 23, 2017 for further proceedings and advised that both parties should allow peace to reign between them pending when the case would be resolved.
