WAJE



Waje Iruobe, popularly called WAJE, WAJE meaning, “Words Aren’t Just Enough”. She’s a fun-loving singer, single mother and the founder of Waje Music and also run an NGO.

She was born on September 1, 1980 in Akure to Edo and Igbo speaking parents from Sabongida Ora, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State. Her father is a native of Sabongida in Edo State while her mother, an Igbo hails from Onitsha in Anambra State.

WAJE grew up in Benin and attended Late Benson Idahosa’s Word of Faith Group of Schools in Benin and later went to Nigerian University, Nsukka in Enugu where she studied Social Works.



She started her musical career professionally at the age of 18 while in school, she did gate- crashing gigs and also singing in her church’s choir.

Opportunity for her to get into limelight surfaced when she was present at a show where twin-singers P Square performed and she was introduced to them. They later featured her on their song, “Do Me” and that was the beginning for her.

Her first single release was titled “Kolo”, Kolo was not popular, it was followed by “For a minute” and “Suntia”. She did “Na the way” with J-Martins and later released “Oko Mi” before her recent work with DJ Caise.

WAJE participated in the ADVANCED WARNING reality TV Show organized by MTV Base South Africa and Zain- Nigeria where she emerged first runner up.

She has since performed music with Nigerian artistes like MI, J-Martins, P-Square and International Star Entertainer, Wyclef Jean on stage in South Africa. She opened for Kerry Hilson during a show organized in Calabar, Nigeria.

Her mentors are Whitney Houston, Monica, Brandy, R Kelly, Mary J Blige and Onyeka Owenu.
