Raphael Benitez
Raphael Benitez was born in Madrid on April 16, 1960.
He played football throughout his youth and joined the Real Madrid academy. He
mixed his university studies with his football career at the lower division of
Spanish teams.
He retired as an active player after a knee injury to begin coaching in the
Real Madrid at the age of 26, as the under 19 and reserve team coach, and
assistant manager for the senior team.
Raphael coached Real Madrid B, Valladolid, Osasuna, Extremadura and
Tenerife. He was later appointed the coach of Valencia in 2001.
In the 2001/2002 league he led Valencia to their first league title in his
first season as the coach; the club won La Liga in 2004 and beat Olympique
Marseille 2-0 in the UEFA Cup final, being their first domestic and European
double.
In 2004 after Liverpool confirmed his appointment, Raphael Benitez won for
the club, the match against AC Milan at the Champion’s League final.
Liverpool under Benitez management beat West Ham in FA Cup final in 2005,
played the final match at the Champions League at Athens in 2007 but lose to AC
Milan.
He left Liverpool on June 3 2010 and was employed by Inter Milan and left
Milan barely six months after until he was appointed Interim manager for
Chelsea in November 2012 after Robert Di Matteo was sacked.

League, I won the Fifa Club World Cup, the FA Cup, the Italian Super Cup, the
Spanish league twice, nine trophies - all the trophies you can win at club
level," said Benitez after a comfortable victory at the Riverside.
"The manager is the manager. One month, three months, seven months - it
doesn't matter.
"I think the reason why the group of fans is not happy is because I was
Liverpool manager, we played in the Champions League, massive games, that's
it."
