Category: Who is who in Kogi State

Ibrahim Idris Adejo, popularly called Ibro is a Businessman, Politician and a former Governor of Kogi State. Ibrahim Idris is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Idris was born in 1949 at Icheke town in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State. He started his primary school education in 1954 in Onitsha, Anambra State. He completed his Primary School Education in Kano in 1963.

He later attended the King’s Commercial College; Buguma in Rivers State in 1964 after which he started Ibro Trading Company specialized in furniture making and hospitality businesses.

In 1970 Ibro moved to Sokoto where he set up the Ibrahim Furniture Factory, the largest in Sokoto State and later the Ibro Hotel, the first 3-star hotel in Sokoto State.

Ibro managed his businesses until he was chosen by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as Kogi State governorship candidate for the 2003 Kogi state governorship election.

He defeated Senator Ahmed Tijani Ahmed in the election which made him the governor of Kogi State at his first-time outing to contest any election.

He assumed office on May 29th 2003. By the end of the tenure in 2007, he ran for re-election and won, but the re-election was nullified on the grounds that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wrongly excluded the All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP) candidate, Prince Alhaji Abubakar Audu, first elected governor of Kogi state from the April 14, 2007 Kogi State governorship poll.

A repeat election held on March 29, 2008 and Idris was returned to the Kogi State Government House as governor.

Ibrahim Idris has 13 wives and many children; he married Ramotu an Egbira lady from Okene on April 13th 2012.

On October 29, 2006, three of his daughters involved in an ADC Airline crash miraculously survived the accident.
