Prince Abubakar Audu (24 October 1947 – 22 November 2015) was twice the Governor of Nigeria's Kogi state. His first tenure was from January 1992 until November 1993 and the second from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003. He died due to a heart attack shortly after the announcement of the election results on 22 November 2015, while seeking re-election on the platform of Nigeria's ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).



Audu started his primary school education at the N.A Junior Primary School, Alloma and later N.A Senior School, Ankpa.

He later went to Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha and graduated from Jos Commercial College where he obtained GCE “O” and “A” Level.

In 1975 Audu went to London and studied Banking and Personnel Management. In 1978 he obtained a professional certificate of secretary and a Fellowship of the Association of International Accountants of London.

He again returned to Nigeria in 1979 and received a Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria.

He worked for several years in the former Standard Bank where he served in different capacities and at management levels.

In 1986 he was appointed the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning in the former Benue State. He held this position for two years when the council was dissolved and he returned to First Bank of Nigeria Plc. as a General Manager.

Prince Abubakar Audu was appointed an Executive Director of FSB International Bank Plc. in 1991 shortly before he was invited to Kogi state to contest the Kogi state governorship election under the ticket of the National Republican Convention (NRC)

He won the election was sworn into office on January 2 1992 as the First Executive Governor of Kogi

state.

The administration ended in 22 months following a military intervention that ended the democratic dispensation of the country in November 1993.

He was re-elected as governor of Kogi state in 1999 under the All Nigerian People’s Party when Nigeria returned to democracy and held the position of the governor of the state until May 29 2003.

He contested the Kogi state governorship election in 2007 under the ANPP and lost to his PDP opponent, Ibrahim Idris. He again lose out to Idris Wada in 2010, contesting under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)

Abubakar Audu is married with children.
