Police parade 11 suspects of cult killings in Kwara

KWARA State Police Command yesterday paraded 11 suspects over Monday’s gruesome murders of a car wash centre owner, Alhaji Bayo Ajia and a middle-aged man Bukola Ajikobi in Ilorin.

The brutal killings simultaneously carried out at Agaka Area and Ibrahim Taiwo Road Underground Bridge were believed to have been masterminded by a cult syndicate led by the suspects.



Parading them before the press at the Homicide Section of the state’s Police Headquarters Ilorin, the Kwara Police Commissioner, Sam Okaula said investigations on the arrested persons “so far” have linked them with the crimes, with a strong promise of diligent prosecutions of the suspects “irrespective of their status” to serve as deterrence to others.

An early morning SMS bulk message caused panic among residents of Ajikobi, Baboko, Agaka and Gambari Areas of the town warning them to shun the streets against likely reprisals.


However, heavy presence of the fully armed policemen in the areas restored confidence in the safety of the residents who till the time of this reports at 2:58pm were going about their normal routine unmolested.

One of the suspects, according to Okaula was said to be in possession of a blood stained portable IUTC axe at the time of his arrest just as others were said to be at the “Indian Hemp den” at an unnamed spot in the town. Other exhibits were substances suspected to be ‘Cannabis Sativa’ and charms.

The suspects are; Kamaldeen Isiaka, Moruf Yahaya, Ashiru Moruf, Sodiq Tajudeen, Abdulsalam Yusuf, Musa Abdulkareem, Emmanuel Ikechukwu, Oke Obafemi, Adeyemi Sosanya, Saidu Muideen and Ibrahim Rafiu.

The police boss, who threatened tougher time for “cult members and other law breakers” in the state, said he would investigate the current state of the Closed Circuit Cameras (CCTV) mounted in some strategic locations in the state, as they are necessary tools for effective policing style.


In a related development, Okaula paraded six robbery suspects including a highway vehicle snatcher, Ongro Stehen of number 9 Power Line Off Badore-Ado Aja Lagos state and the recovered vehicle Toyota Siena Space Bus with Registration Number SMK 199 CC Lagos he allegedly snatched at a gun point along Ilorin-Ogbomosho expressway.
