Photos: Suspected Cult Members Kill Popular Thug, Bayo Ajia in Ilorin

A suspected thug in Kwara State, Bayo Ajia, was reportedly killed by suspected cultists in Ilorin, the state capital, on Monday.

Ajia, who is visible in political activities in the state had been in reckoning since the beginning of the Fourth republic, serving as political thug at different times.


It was also gathered that he had been involved in violence in the Ilorin metropolis before venturing into political circle.

Tall, heavily built with tribal marks on his cheeks, Ajia was believed to hail from Ajia compound in Ilorin emirate.

Ajia was said to have been killed in cold blood helplessly by an alleged rival cult group whose identity is yet to be determined as at press time. He was said to have been shot at severally by his assailants. When it seemed that, that would not bring him down, he was said to have been brutally hatched with machetes. The incident took place at his car-wash centre located along Kwara State Stadium complex, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Ilorin.

An eyewitness had it that the suspected cultists, who came from one of the states in the South-West, also inflicted machete cuts on the deceased after shooting him.

The cultists were said to have arrived the deceased’s workshop in a taxi cab around 4:15 p.m. and went immediately to meet Ajia who was said to be alone in his shop.

The remains of the deceased were reportedly buried on Monday amid wailings by his friends at the Muslim cemetery, Irewolede area, in Ilorin metropolis.

It would be recalled that Late Ajia was sentenced to death by an Ilorin High court in 2004 over a murder case involving him and one other which he appealed at the Court of Appeal and was subsequently affirmed by the Supreme Court.

He was, however, granted State pardon by the immediate past administration in the State.

The Kwara Police Command on Monday confirmed the death of a suspected cult member and thug, Bayo Ajia.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in llorin on Monday night.

He said a group of suspected cult members attacked Mr. Ajia at his car wash premises located on lbrahim Taiwo road, llorin on Monday evening.

Mr. Okasanmi said the command had put necessary security measure in place to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

The command’s spokesman advised the residents of the state to go about their normal business as adequate security measure had been put in place to protect lives and property.

He said the command had commenced investigation into the killing of the suspected cult member.

As a result of the incident, residents at lbrahim Taiwo road and other areas hurriedly left for home for fear of being attacked by some suspected cult members.

Ilorin has witnessed a resurgence of cult-related violence in the last four years. The cult groups and their affiliates receded during the tenure of former Governor and now Senate President Bukola Saraki due to stringent laws criminalizing the secret groups and an enhanced policing.

With Ajia’s killing, the relative peace being enjoyed in Ilorin is now effectively shattered as Ajia’s cult members and others would swing into full force in avenging the killing of one of their big guns.

There is time to be born & time to die. It is no more a news but still remains surprised that the messenger of death visited & robbed the live of one of the populous sons of Ajia family, in person of Bayo Ajia. The titan (Bayo) was reportedly killed @ his car wash shop, situated at the entrance of Kwara state stadium complex, Ilorin, yesterday evening by suspected cult members. He has been buried last night in accordance to Islamic rite. Bayu survived by his father.

What next after the exit of powerful Bayu? Only God can say how many people will accompany the elephant. Prayer is seriously needed in Ilorin & all her environments not to let the exit of Bayo bring another bath of blood in our communities.
