Exxon Mobil is an American multinational oil and gas corporation. It was formerly known as the Standard Oil Company, founded by John D. Rockefeller in 1870

In 1911, the Supreme Court of United States ruled that Standard Oil be dissolved and split into 34 companies. Two of these companies were Jersey Standard (Standard Oil Company of New Jersey) which later became Exxon, and Socony (Standard Oil Company of New York) which became Mobil.

On November 30 1999, Exxon merged with Mobil to become ExxonMobil with its headquarters located at Irving, Texas.


ExxonMobil is one of the largest publicly traded companies by market capitalization in the world and is the largest company in the world by revenue.

It has 37 oil refineries in 21 countries with a daily refining capacity of 6.3 million barrels. It is the largest refiner in the world, a title associated with Standard Oil since its incorporation in 1870.

ExxonMobil markets products around the world under the brands of Exxon, Mobil and Esso. It has hundreds of smaller subsidiaries such as Imperial Oil Limited, owning 69.6% of the company, and SeaRiver Maritime, a petroleum shipping company.

The current Chairman of the board and CEO of ExxonMobil Corporation is Rex Tillerson. Tillerson assumed the position on January 1, 2006, on the retirement of long-time Chairman and CEO, Lee Raymond who received a retirement and severance package of approximately $400million.

The company has $486.429 billion Revenue, 82,100 employees with its headquarters at Irving, Texas in United States.
