Boko Haram Lays Siege On Damaturu, Yobe Capital; Many Feared Dead

Attackers suspected to be members of the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram have laid siege in Damaturu, Yobe State, shooting sporadically since about 5:50 am today, reports from some residents said.
The attackers also laid siege on the Yobe State University, Damaturu, shooting and killing students and other residents.

Residents of the town are said to be fleeing to supposedly safe areas as they are unable to identify the insurgents from the security agents.
According to reports we gathered, the insurgents arrived at the Yobe town in the early hours of today and made for the gate of the university where they continued to shoot for hours.
A resident told Nigeria Politics Online that, security agents are nowhere in sight, while security checkpoints along the university road were deserted.
However, Echoes gathered that, though there is heavy security presence, security operatives have been hampered from using full military force to avoid killing innocent civilians while residents themselves are at loss on who to trust as they are not sure of who is really a genuine security man or insurgent.

The attackers, believed to be members of Boko Haram sect invaded Damaturu, from the Gujba axis South-East of the town, shooting and triggering of explosives.

Residents of Jerusalem and Pawari, bye pass along Gujba road have reportedly deserted their homes for safety.
