Brandy

Brandy Rayana Norwood is an American recording artist and entertainer. Born into a musical family in McComb, Mississippi, raised in Carson, California.

R&B Singer Brandy was born in McComb, Mississippi, on February 11, 1979 at 8:56 PM EST to a church pastor and singer; she was 11 years old when she released her self-titled debut album, which featured the single hit, “I Wanna Be Down”

Brandy is the only daughter and oldest child of William Ray Norwood Sr., a church pastor, and his wife, Sonja Norwood. She’s the elder sister of Ray J, a singer and actor and cousin to Snoop Dogg, a rapper, actor and music promoter.

Brandy started singing in her family’s church choir. Recognizing both of their children were gifted performers, William and Sonja left Mississippi for Los Angeles, California, in the early 1980s in hopes of helping their children launch their careers.

Sonja Norwood quit her job at H&R Block in order to manage Brandy and Ray J.

She attended Pepperdine University in 1999 but dropped out because of her busy schedule.

Before long, with her parents’ help, Brandy was performing at a variety of showcases and talent shows. When she was in the ninth grade, Brandy got her huge break: she landed a recording contract with Atlantic Records. That same year, she was cast in the short-lived ABC Sitcom “Thea”. While the show failed to resonate with audiences, Brandy and her powerful voice did not. From that time she debuted on the show, she was popular with viewers.
